Thijmen van der Wielen

I’m Thijmen van der Wielen, a PhD candidate in Spatial Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. I study how cities grow, where people settle, and what this means for economic development. Much of my current work revolves around the CRISP model — a global framework for projecting future population distributions at a local level, developed in collaboration with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. I’m also interested in topics closer to home, like the economic value of urban heritage and the logistics challenges cities face.
